It’s a rare song that sticks in my head that makes me sad. Music to me is something that gives me joy so it’s only a select few that stir that emotion in me.
For today’s choice we have Beth Orton’s Blood Red River. It never fails to make me stop and think about my life. I’ve no idea why it does that. I jump back to a hired mini-bus that we had hired to get us to and from my cousins wedding in Rugby many moons ago. My brother and I had taught our table how to drink properly. We made it through something like 13 bottles of wine, 7 bottles of fizzy stuff and however much Aftershock we snuck in to the hotel in our hipflasks. Suffice it to say we were feeling sorry for ourselves on the seven hour journey home on the motorway which I spent listening to Beth’s Central Reservation album.
