With the text of Gibson’s books being readily available on the net I decided to get one I hadnt read before to read during my downtime at work over the new year period. This collection of short stories was perfect for my needs though I find reading on a monitor to be a pain in the arse :(

Has seriously got me in the mood for a Cyberpunk 2020/spacemaster roleplay though :)

Now most of you will know that I read alot. My mum laughs when folk in my work ask how the hell I can get to work in one piece as I walk to work every morning with my face stuck in a book.

Someone on the Alt Nation forum as came up with the idea to read 50 books in a year and make a list on the forum…and quite a few folk are doing it. It’s a great idea and alot of folk are taking up the challenge but to alot of folk that is a problem..it isn’t a challenge.

Going on my old reading speeds I would have that finished within 6 months tops but these days I think I might struggle. As someone pointed out in shock, which made Staley laugh, thats almost a book a week. With the time I devote to reading I think I might be hard pressed to actually do that! This is also compounded by the fact that I reread alot of books and refuse to read alot of others. So in order to make this more interesting not only am I going to force myself to read a book I dont want to read for every 2 books I want to read…I’ve also got to read at least 2 new books out of every 3.

In saying that though I’ve made a have decent attempt so far and the only one I have read fully before is Cyberpunk -

1. Burning Chrome – William Gibson
2. Cyberpunk – Bruce Bethke
3. Finding a Fit: Options for Flexible Working
4. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone – JK Rowling

And the rules say anything counts so the short story Cyberpunk and the manual for my work at #3 count towards the total. I do feel as though I’m cheating though. In saying that we’re only at the 10th January…less than 2 weeks and I’ve already got through 2 full novels and I’m about 100 pages short of finishing The Da Vinci Code. I might be able to do this after all.
